Only recently discovered by Romulan scouts, the Kaillera Expanse is a region filled with unique anomalies, nebulae, and star systems. The U.S.S. Challenger is currently exploring the area, along with a small group of Romulan and Klingon ships.

Federation hopes to establish an interspecies hub in the region were deterred, after a terrorist attack destroyed a construction ship. The Challenger is leading the investigation into the incident.
